THE SEVEN FOUNDATIONS OF LEARNING IN IEYC

Foundation 1 – Three dimensions: Child-focused Personal, International, and Academic Dimensions of Learning and Development

The three dimensions are designed to complete each other, provide children with a breadth of experience, and facilitate students’ learning with holistic approaches. Children engaged in IEYC activities demonstrate learning and development within and across all three dimensions.

Foundation 2 – A Progressive Pedagogy

Children are facilitated with dynamic environments and playful learning experiences to help the children expand their capabilities through agency and curiosity.

Foundation 3 – A Process to Facilitate Learning for All

Learning is designed and structured thoroughly in order to facilitate children’s learning experiences which are engaging, enjoyable and, most importantly, to meet children's learning needs.

Foundation 4 - Globally Competent Learners

Children may understand the world through disciplinary and interdisciplinary study. The school focuses on children’s development in both a strong interest in their own other cultures and a keen desire to help them to be active citizens of domestic and global communities through actions which give a positive impact on society.

Foundation 5 – Knowledge, Skills, and Understanding are taught, learned, and assessed differently.

The school acknowledges the dynamic nature of young children's learning and that children may reach the development of milestones simultaneously. Thus, children demonstrate different aspects of learning within different contexts. School provides an ideal context stimulating engagement and meaningful inquiry to support children.

Foundation 6 – Connected Learning

The school believes that learning should be meaningful and encourages children to connect their diverse experiences.

Foundation 7 – Reflective Practices for Improving Learning

Teachers’ experiences and understanding of children's learning growth are valuable points to have a deep, comprehensive knowledge of their children in the class. Teachers design learning environments that support meaningful, appropriate, and multi-sensory experiences that young children need as part of their ongoing learning.
